1.1 Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to estalblish the performance, reliability,
Curability, quality assurance, and control requirements for the A-578 manual
transmission

1. 2 Scope
1.2.1 Application
This standard is for use in suplying certain parts under purchase orders of
Chrysler Corporation or its subsidiaries. This standard is limited in its
application to those drawings or engineering illustrations which call out this
standard mumber or which refer to this standard within some other standard Or
specification. Original eauipment and replacement parts for some vehicles sold
by Chrysler Corporation Or its dealers are not covered by this standard
1.2.2 Hazardous Material Control
Procucts furnished to Chrysler Corporation and products and processes used by
Suppliers to manufacture those products must conform to the emoloyee and consumer
cath, employee safety, and environmental requirements contained in CS-9003
1.2.3 General Requirements
This standard is upported by r-8500, General Reguirements, which describes
terms and responsibilities associated with the
quirements of this standard
1.3 Definitions
