    PIERS 2014 Guangzhou Program
    Welcome to PIERS 2014 Guangzhou,
where microwave and lightwave communities meet
It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in Progress in Electromnagnetics Research Symposium(PIERS
2014 and share the latest findings in the electromagnetic wave spectrum (including microwave and lightwave, and
This ycar is a spccial year becausc it marks the 150 years of Maxwell's Equations. J amcs Clerk Maxwell prcscntcd
his important finding to the British Royal Socicty in 1864. Both microwave and lightwave arc governed by the same
Maxwcll's equations. However, many pcople in microwave rarely read papers in optics journals and " reinvented the
wheel from time to time, while many other people in optics rarely read papers in microwave journals and keep
reinventing the wheet". It is therefore very worthwhile to encourage the microwave comnunity and the lightwave
community to mect and talk (or listen)to cach other in a conference. PIERS 2014 is a great event as a Family
Reunion of Electromnagnctic Waves, where microwave and lightwave communitics meet
    PIERS 2013 Stockholm was a great success with 1, 650 paper submissions and 1, 135 registered/paid participants
from 67 countrics and many top-notch keynote/invited speakers of the areas. PIERS 2014 Guangzhou is setting a
new record with over 2,000 paper submissions
Like PIERS 2013 Stockholm, this years conference will feature the following five tracks
SC 1. Computational Electromagnetics, Electromagnctic Compatibility, Scattering and Electromagnetic Thcory
SC 2. Metamaterials, Plasmonics and Complcx Media
    SC 3. Optics and Photonics
SC 4. Antennas and Microwave technologics
SC 5. Remote Sensing, Inverse Problems, Lmaging, Radar and Sensing
PIERS 2014 Guan zhou features a full suite of plenary, keynote, invited, and contributed talks given by international
academic and industrial researchers who are leaders in their respective fields
The plenary Session is scheduled on the morning of Monday, August 24, with five outstand
John Pendry (Imperial College London, UK) will give a plenary talk on metamaterials. Prof. David Miller o
Stanford University will discuss low-energy integrated photonics for information processing. Prof. Akira Ishimaru
(University of Washington, Seattle, USA )will talk about "Statistical Electromagnetic Theories Applied to Imaging
in Geophysical and Biological Randoin Media " Prof Federico Capasso of Harvard University will give a plenary talk
Flat Optics Based on Metasurfaccs: Molding Wavefronts and Surface Waves". Prof Lihong Wang (Washington
Univorsity in St. Louis, USA)will give a presentation entitled"Photoacoustic Tomography: Ultrasonically Bcating
    Optical Diffusion and Diffraction
A sesquicentennial anniversary session to commemorate 150 years of Maxwell,s equations is organized at PIERS
